The budget CAP set for me gave me a plan of attack for managing my money in the future. Now instead of spiralling down, I’m spiralling up!"
Christians Against Poverty is a national charity that's been walking alongside people in debt since 1996 — offering free, expert debt counselling with no judgement, and no catch.
Right here in Weston-super-Mare, that means:
One-to-one debt help from a trained debt coach, for as long as it takes
Practical support — food, fuel, and emergency essentials when people need them most
Job clubs and life skills groups, helping people find work and build lasting financial confidence
A welcome into the local church community — because no one should have to face debt alone
Weston-super-Mare had a CAP Centre before, and between 2016 and 2024 it helped 68 local families become completely debt-free. Now, as churches across the town, we have come together to relaunch the centre and continue serving our community.

"The key to making this work is for it to be a genuinely collaborative project — churches and the wider community coming together to meet a very real need in our town."
— Revd Tom Webber,
Vicar of Christ Church and Emmanuel Church

"Thank you for your support. Right now, 1 in 5 children in Weston-super-Mare are growing up in poverty. Together, with your help, we can offer local families real, practical hope."
— Sisilah Baker,
Chairperson, CAP Weston-super-Mare Steering Group

Leading CAP Weston-super-Mare is Donna Pilgrim, who brings years of first-hand experience of walking alongside families in crisis. Donna has spent much of that time at Weston-super-Mare Foodbank, both as a volunteer and in leadership — and was recently licensed as a Reader across Christ Church and Emmanuel Church.
"I can't wait to start engaging with churches and the wider community to build a strong, sustainable CAP centre — one that helps us eradicate poverty for families right here in our town."

Sign up for CAP's prayer diary and pray for families finding their way out of debt

Regular partnership with local churches and organisations is key to the success of CAP WSM!

Ahead of the relaunch, we're inviting churches and community groups across Weston-super-Mare and Worle to mark CAP Sunday sometime in October 2026 — a chance to raise awareness of debt and poverty in our town, and to fundraise towards the £30,000 target for CAP Weston-super-Mare ahead of its 1st January 2027 launch.
Everything you need to run your own CAP Sunday is free to download:
