Thursday 3rd September 2026

Dear Church Leaders - Grace and peace to you

You will now have received our initial letter regarding the re-establishment of the Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre in Weston-super-Mare and the surrounding area. We are delighted to announce the appointment of Donna Pilgrim as our new Debt Centre Manager, and preparations are well underway for the launch of the centre in early 2027.

As we move into this exciting next phase, we are looking forward to building strong relationships with local churches. Together, we can bring hope and freedom to those facing financial hardship within our community.

With this in mind, we warmly invite your church to join us in a spirit of humility, unity and shared mission by signing a Multi-Churches Partnership Agreement. This agreement will support the implementation and ongoing work of the CAP Debt Centre. The success and sustainability of this vital ministry depend entirely on our local churches coming together and committing to this partnership.

In signing the Multi- Churches Agreement, each church commits to:

Prayerfully supporting Christians Against Poverty and the work of CAP Weston.

Your church making a regular monthly payment to help fund the work of CAP Weston. We are praying for 20 local churches or more to commit giving £100 per month, helping to provide the financial foundation needed for our planned January relaunch.

Where possible, appointing a representative from your church to support the partnership and act as a point of contact with CAP Weston.

As we prepare for the relaunch, we must be transparent that the centre can only move forward with sufficient financial backing. The funding commitments we receive will determine our ability to sustain the manager role and establish the centre on a firm foundation.

We are kindly asking churches to prayerfully consider their financial commitment and confirm their support by the end of October. This will enable us to assess whether we have the necessary resources to proceed as planned.

We invite your congregation to seek God’s guidance and consider becoming part of this shared calling. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of people carrying financial burden, offering dignity, hope and the opportunity for a new beginning.

If this is something your church would be interested in, or you would like to speak with us, we would be grateful if you could email us at: CAPWeston@ccwsm.org.uk

With every blessing,

Yours sincerely,

Grace and peace to you.

We are delighted to share some exciting news with you. A steering committee has been actively meeting to prepare for the launch of a new Christians Against Poverty (CAP) Debt Centre in Weston super Mare with the aim of opening in early 2027. This is a significant opportunity for our churches to work together in demonstrating the love of Christ in practical ways by bringing hope, freedom and support to people who are struggling with debt and financial hardship.

We are grateful to Rev Tom Webber and the Christ Church / Emmanuel PCC's who have agreed to become the lead churches for the re-launch.

Many of you may remember that CAP operated successfully in Weston super Mare. Rev’d Paul Larcombe was the debt centre manager and, following his retirement, the role was covered by part time managers until replacements could not be found and the CAP Weston work suspended.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a UK charity that partners with local churches to provide free, professional debt help to people facing unmanageable debt. CAP’s award-winning debt service combines expert financial advice with compassionate, face-to-face support from local church volunteers. At its heart, CAP is about much more than finances. It is about restoring dignity, reducing isolation and sharing the love and hope found in Jesus Christ.

As with all CAP centres, the work relies on strong partnership between local churches, sustainable funding and a committed team of volunteers. We believe this new Debt Centre can become a powerful expression of churches across Weston-super-Mare serving their community together.

We would be delighted for all of our local churches to be part of this vision as we seek to bring hope, practical help, and the love of Christ to those who need it most. Please keep this venture in your prayers as we seek to recruit a new Debt Centre Manager.

Your sincerely,
